Birthday Celebrating - Brewfest

Our birthdays are 6 days a part, and after several years of not doing a whole lot for either (or both) of our days, we thought we ought to do something fun.  Montgomery apparently agreed with us, scheduling the Riverbend Brewfest on my birthday!  For Jeff's birthday I bought the tickets! :)

The Brewfest was set up along Riverfront Part. Jeff and I sampled lots of local brews from all over Alabama, a few imported beers, and several regional favorites. There was a LOT of good brew - including my favorite brewer - New Belgium (they make Fat Tire - which is probably my all around favorite).

A few highlights:

We tried the Chinese import, Lucky Buddha which comes in an awesome green, Buddha shaped bottle.
From our Southern neighbors, we tried New Orleans's Abita new Andy Gator, and a summer brew from Atlanta's Sweetwater.  Lots of ciders were represented, and I"m kicking myself for not writing down the distillery with the awesome Pear cider.

As for the 'Bama brews - we tried some Yellohammer, Back Forty, Rocket Republic, Good People, and Avondale beers among others.    Montgomery's own Railyard was of course represented - after we'd had enough suds to float our teeth we walked up the street to the Railyard's dining room for dinner. (Fried Wickles, huge burgers, fries, and a large glass of water each!)

Good times! Next year - we both turn a "Big -0" ... we'll have to find something to top this.

Cheers and love from the other Dixie...

Long Time No Blog - A bit of catch up...

I'm not sure why I fell off the blog wagon - but there's no question I did. It's been over two years since I last posted an update. (Sheesh!)  Here's to keeping better track...

Jeff has been working at MTW Aerospace for over a year and a half - and I'm keeping on keepin' on at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.  This spring has been busy with five shows and the continuation of our educational tour. We have the Southern Writers Project in house this week - a selection of scripts in development are work-shopped with ASF actors and directors and then staged readings of the new works run along side our regular shows. This summer we're staging Mary Poppins which should be an adventure.

Baby 13 on Jeff's Shoulder Last Winter
(Who needs a parrot?)
As for the fur kids, we are ranking at 9... four dogs and five cats.   Just over a year ago, two new babies came home with me: the first was 13, a kitten who turned up outside ASF.  Initially I tried to find a home for her, but in the end I couldn't let her go. She's a super cute, snugly, spunky kitty who is still pretty "street wise" and doesn't take any crap from anybody.
13 All Grown Up

Shortly after 13 came home, one of the kitties I have been taking care of at work decided to get super social, approach complete strangers, and then managed to get himself stuck outside of the ASF building on the Patron's Room balcony. I couldn't take the stress of what would happen with the super social fluff ball, so I brought Sammy home, too.

We still have our three older kitties Sebastian, Bella, and Roland, and our four mutts, Chester, Phyllis, Fang, and Loki.  They are a hot mess and a handful, but we love them!  Loki is the only dog I've ever had who would rather be outside most of the time. In the back yard he is a big fearsome beast who frightens our neighbors with his deep bark and protects us from vicious bicyclists,  passing cars, and strolling teenagers, yet try to take him out the front door and he turns into 80 pounds of quivering furry jelly.
Sammy

We're lucky to have great friends and neighbors who help us take care of the herd when we go out of town. They also love company - which our good friends Jarrod Yuskauskas and Vincent Boyle found out when they came through Montgomery the week before last.  (They were here for approximately 24 hours - I've made them promise a longer visit next time!)

Jeff and I both have birthdays this week - Jeff's was yesterday (Mother's Day) and mine is this coming weekend. We went out to eat last Saturday rather than on Sunday thanks to the holiday coincidence. We have plans to hit downtown this weekend and check out a bunch of happenings at the Riverfront. We'll see how that goes!

Our biggest item in the way of news is that we are getting ready to go to England! This summer, our choir is getting the opportunity to do a week long residency at the Salisbury Cathedral, where we will 'fill in' for the regular choir while they are on vacation. I'm excited and more than a little nervous... My mom (and several folks from the parish) are joining the choir to see the sights and soak in some history. After our Salisbury stint is complete, Jeff and I will be staying a few days in London, then Jeff will come home to go back to work, and I will go on to Switzerland to catch up with my mom, where I'll get to meet her Swiss friends from her Farm Youth Exchange days.  I'm looking forward to all of the above!

Well - all for now...more later!
