Birthday Celebrating - Brewfest

Our birthdays are 6 days a part, and after several years of not doing a whole lot for either (or both) of our days, we thought we ought to do something fun.  Montgomery apparently agreed with us, scheduling the Riverbend Brewfest on my birthday!  For Jeff's birthday I bought the tickets! :)

The Brewfest was set up along Riverfront Part. Jeff and I sampled lots of local brews from all over Alabama, a few imported beers, and several regional favorites. There was a LOT of good brew - including my favorite brewer - New Belgium (they make Fat Tire - which is probably my all around favorite).

A few highlights:

We tried the Chinese import, Lucky Buddha which comes in an awesome green, Buddha shaped bottle.
From our Southern neighbors, we tried New Orleans's Abita new Andy Gator, and a summer brew from Atlanta's Sweetwater.  Lots of ciders were represented, and I"m kicking myself for not writing down the distillery with the awesome Pear cider.

As for the 'Bama brews - we tried some Yellohammer, Back Forty, Rocket Republic, Good People, and Avondale beers among others.    Montgomery's own Railyard was of course represented - after we'd had enough suds to float our teeth we walked up the street to the Railyard's dining room for dinner. (Fried Wickles, huge burgers, fries, and a large glass of water each!)

Good times! Next year - we both turn a "Big -0" ... we'll have to find something to top this.

Cheers and love from the other Dixie...
